CERAMIC COATING

At Drive Fresh, we deliver professional ceramic coating with meticulous paint preparation — bringing long-lasting gloss, hydrophobic protection, and showroom results directly to your home or workplace.

What is Ceramic Coating?

Invisible protection with a lasting shine

Ceramic coating is a silica-based (SiO2) liquid polymer that chemically bonds to your clear coat and cures into a hard, glass-like layer. Unlike wax, it doesn't sit on top of the paint. It becomes part of the surface.

That layer shields against UV, chemical staining, bird droppings, road contaminants and light paint defects. It's also hydrophobic, so water beads and sheets off and maintenance gets much easier.

The result is a car that stays cleaner, washes faster and holds a depth of gloss wax can't reproduce. Waxes wash away in weeks. A professional ceramic or graphene coating protects for years.

Why Ceramic Coating

More than surface-level shine

Whether you’re preserving a daily driver or protecting a car you love, ceramic coating is a smart investment in appearance, maintenance, and long-term value.

UV & OXIDATION

Australia’s harsh UV breaks down unprotected clear coat until it fades and chalks. A ceramic coating takes that exposure as a sacrificial layer, so your paint doesn’t have to.

UV & Chemical Resistance

Bird droppings, sap and bug splatter etch bare paint within hours in Sydney heat. The coating’s chemical barrier keeps them on the surface until you remove them.

Enhanced Gloss & Depth

A properly applied coating amplifies the richness and clarity of your colour with a wet-look depth wax can’t match. It holds that finish for years, not weeks.

WASH-INDUCED SWIRLS

Bare clear coat is soft, so every wash drags grit across it and builds up fine scratches. A coated surface is harder and slicker, so dirt releases with less pressure and less contact.

Long-Term Value

Paint condition is the first thing a buyer judges, and they use it to gauge how the whole car has been treated. Protected paint holds its appearance and condition far better over years of daily driving, and that shows when it comes time to sell.

EASIER MAINTENANCE

The hydrophobic surface makes water bead and sheet straight off, carrying dirt with it. Your car stays cleaner between washes and maintenance washes take a fraction of the effort.

Our Process

How we apply your ceramic coating

Flawless results start with thorough preparation. Each step is performed with the same care we’d expect for our own vehicle.

1

Vehicle Inspection

We assess paint condition under proper lighting, take paint depth readings, note existing defects, and confirm the right coating package for your vehicle and how you use it.

2

Wash & Surface Decontamination

A dedicated prewash lifts loose grime before contact, followed by a safe contact wash. The paint is then chemically decontaminated to remove embedded iron and tar, and clay-barred to pull out anything bonded to the surface.

3

Paint Correction

Swirls, light scratches, and oxidation are machine-polished out. Every package includes a Stage 1 enhancement, with Stage 2 or 3 available where the paint needs more, so the coating seals in clarity rather than defects.

4

Panel Wipe & Tape Prep

A full IPA wipe-down strips all polishing oils so the coating bonds directly to bare clear coat, and trim, rubber and sensitive areas are taped off to protect them during application.

5

Ceramic Application

The coating is applied panel by panel in controlled conditions, levelled at the right flash time, and inspected under lighting as we go to ensure even coverage with no high spots.

6

Curing & Handover

The coating is left to cure properly before a final inspection; then we walk you through aftercare so you know exactly how to protect the work.

FAQs

Ceramic coating questions

Common questions about preparation, durability, and aftercare.

Ceramic coating is a silica-based (SiO2) liquid polymer that chemically bonds to your car’s clear coat and cures into a hard, glass-like layer.

That’s the key difference from wax. Wax sits on top of the paint and washes away within weeks, while a coating bonds and becomes part of the paint surface, protecting it for years.
Once cured, it shields your paint from UV, chemical staining and the etching caused by bird droppings and tree sap. Being hydrophobic, it makes water bead and sheet straight off, carrying dirt with it. The harder, slicker surface also resists the light swirls and marring that bare clear coat picks up from everyday washing, and it adds a depth of gloss to your colour that wax simply can’t reproduce.

Heads up: a coating seals in whatever condition your paint is already in, so preparation matters more than the product itself. That’s why every one of our packages includes a full decontamination and Stage 1 paint enhancement before a single drop goes on.
Our coatings are rated at 5 and 7 years, but that rating depends on how the car is maintained.

A car that’s washed correctly, using pH-neutral shampoo, clean microfibre and safe technique, will go the distance. A car that’s run through automatic brush washes, cleaned with harsh chemicals or washed carelessly will wear the coating down long before its rated life.

We’ll walk you through the aftercare when we hand the car back, and our maintenance plan exists for anyone who’d rather leave it to us.

Our packages start from $1,300 for a 5 year ceramic, $1,550 for 7 year graphene, and $2,100 for full protection across paint, wheels, leather, trim and glass. Final pricing depends on your vehicle’s size and paint condition.

Prices vary widely across Sydney, and it comes down to what’s included and who’s doing the work. Most of what you pay for isn’t the bottle, it’s the hours of decontamination and correction beforehand. A cheap quote usually means rushed prep, improper technique and little or no correction, which seals swirled paint under a layer meant to last years.

A coating is only as good as the preparation behind it. Reading paint depth, choosing the right pad and compound, levelling at the correct flash time and checking every panel under proper lighting are what separate a coating that lasts from one that fails. This isn’t a job for an amateur. Drive Fresh is owner-operated, working on one car at a time from start to finish, so nothing gets rushed and no corners get cut on the parts you can’t see.

Heads up: every package includes full decontamination, a Stage 1 paint enhancement and a complimentary glass coating. Compare what’s included and how it’s done, not just the headline price.

Both protect your paint well. Graphene is the newer technology and performs better in a few ways that matter in Sydney.
  • 5-year ceramic (Premium): a hard SiO2 layer with deep gloss, strong UV and chemical resistance, and proper hydrophobic behaviour—a solid choice for a daily driver.
  • 7-year graphene (Elite): better heat resistance, which directly reduces the water spotting and staining our sun bakes into paint. Slicker surface, stronger beading, stays cleaner between washes, and two extra years.
For a couple of hundred more, graphene is the one we recommend to almost everyone keeping their car a while.

It’s the best time to do it. Your paint is at its peak condition, so there’s minimal correction needed and the coating locks in a factory finish that’s still perfect.

Left bare, that new paint starts collecting swirls from the very first wash and UV damage from day one. Coat it now, and you’re preserving it. Wait two years, and you’re paying for correction first, then the coating.

Heads up: dealer “paint protection” packages are often an overpriced sealant rather than a genuine ceramic coating, and rarely include any correction or proper prep. Worth asking exactly what’s being applied.

Yes, and this is the biggest misconception about coatings.

A coating makes washing and maintenance much easier through its coating properties. Dirt still lands on the car; it just doesn’t bond to the coating as hard, so it releases with much less contact and much less risk of putting swirls back in.
Washing regularly and safely is actually how you get the full life out of a coating. Neglect it, and contamination builds up on the surface and in the pores, which dulls performance well before the coating’s rated lifespan.

Don’t want to deal with it yourself? That’s what our maintenance plan is for. We come to you on a set schedule and wash your car the right way, using the correct products and technique, so the coating keeps performing exactly as it should.

Heads up: incorrect washing is the fastest way to shorten a coating’s life. If you’re not going to wash it properly yourself, a maintenance plan is the safest way to protect what you’ve paid for.
