Rock chips
The paint is missing, not damaged. Polishing can’t replace what isn’t there, so these need touch-up or respray work.
Scratches through the clear coat
If it catches your fingernail, it’s gone past the clear. Polishing further would only thin the surrounding paint without removing the mark.
Peeling or failed clear coat
Once it’s delaminating or flaking, machine work accelerates the failure. That panel needs re-clearing, not correction.
Orange peel texture
The uneven, dimpled finish in the paint itself. Levelling it means wet sanding or a respray, not polishing.
PRE EXISITING PANEL DAMAGE
Dents, previous repairs, mismatched or resprayed panels, overspray and factory defects sit underneath the surface. Correction improves the finish on top, but it can’t hide what’s below it.
Rust and paint bubbling
Rust works its way up from beneath the paint, so once you see bubbling or blistering the damage is already under the surface. Polishing over it does nothing and can strip the thin paint left on top. That’s a panel repair job.

Paint Correction Questions
Common questions about process, preparation, and aftercare.
Paint correction permanently removes defects from your paintwork by using machine polishers and dedicated polishing compounds, rather than filling or hiding them.
Over time, your clear coat picks up swirl marks, light scratches, oxidation and water spotting- the haze you notice in direct sunlight that makes the colour look flat and dull. Using machine polishers and various compounds, we level the clear coat on a microscopic level so those defects are gone for good and the paint reflects properly again.
It’s the same principle as “sanding and polishing” timber, just on a surface measured in microns.
That depends entirely on your paint, and we’ll tell you honestly after inspecting it.
- Stage 1 · Gloss Enhancement. A light single-step polish that boosts gloss and removes very light swirls and haziness. Around 65-75% defect removal. Best for newer or well-kept cars.
- Stage 2 · Cut and Polish. A cutting stage to remove moderate swirls and scratches, followed by a refining polish, hence the two steps. Around 75 to 85% defect removal, and the most common choice for reviving daily drivers.
- Stage 3 · Multi-Stage. Exactly what the name says: a heavy cut, a mid step and a final polish combined for the best result possible. Up to 95% defect removal, for heavily swirled or neglected paint.
Heads up: more isn’t always better. Every stage removes clear coat, so if your paint doesn’t need Stage 3, we won’t sell it to you. Before anything touches your paint, we take readings with a paint depth gauge to measure how many microns of clear coat we have to work with, so we know the correction is safe and there’s no risk of burning through.
Swirl marks, haze, light scratches, oxidation and water spotting: yes, largely or entirely depending on the stage.
Polishing can’t fix anything that’s gone through the clear coat. If a scratch catches your fingernail, it’s too deep, and the same goes for rock chips, peeling or failed clear coat, and deep isolated scratches. Those need touch-up or respray work, which we don’t provide.
We’ll point out anything outside the scope during inspection and tell you straight what’s achievable before you spend a cent.
Done properly, yes, it’s safe. Done badly, it’s one of the few things that can permanently ruin a panel, which is exactly why technique and experience matter.
Your clear coat is only microns thick, and correction works by removing a tiny amount of it. We take paint depth readings, start with the least aggressive combination that will do the job, and reduce pressure and heat around edges, badges and body lines where the clear is thinnest.
Heads up: we’d rather leave a stubborn defect than chase it. Pushing for perfection on a scratch that deep means cutting further into the clear coat than it can safely take, and burning through means a respray, not a polish. A safe finish and honest gloss always come before chasing “100% defect removal.”
Not compulsory, but it’s the smart move, and here’s the honest reasoning.
Correction leaves you with fresh, clear paint. Without protection, it starts collecting swirls and defects again from the moment you take the car out for a drive, let alone the next wash. After every correction, we include a 6-month ceramic sealant (Not a ceramic coating) as standard, so you’re never sent off unprotected.
If you want that work to last years rather than months, a CERAMIC or GRAPHENE COATING locks it in and adds real UV, chemical, and hydrophobic protection, making maintenance washes far easier and safer.
Heads up: booking a ceramic coating package is better value than correction on its own. Every coating package includes a Stage 1 paint enhancement in the price, with Stage 2 or 3 available as an upgrade, so you get correction and years of protection in one go. Doing it on the same visit is also cheaper, because coming back later means paying to wash, decontaminate and prep the paint all over again.
Depends on your vehicle’s size and condition:
- Stage 1: roughly 4 to 6 hours
- Stage 2: roughly 8 to 10 hours
- Stage 3 (multistage): typically from a day or two
These times cover the whole job, not just the polishing. Every correction includes a full prep wash and paint decontamination, taping off rubber seals, trim and sensitive areas, and an IPA wipe-down to strip any pre-existing oils before any polishing work.
Adding a ceramic coating takes it a step further. The paint gets another wipe-down or wash before any coating goes on, and the coating then needs time to flash and cure properly before we hand your vehicle back.
Heads up: if a Stage 3 runs overnight, we’ll need the car stored securely undercover.
That’s almost entirely down to how the car gets washed afterwards.
The correction itself is permanent; those defects are gone. But new swirls can be reintroduced in a single careless wash. A corrected car that’s washed safely (two buckets, pH-neutral shampoo, clean microfibre) and kept protected can stay looking sharp for years. Run it through an automatic brush wash, and you’ll undo the work in seconds.
We’ll walk you through the aftercare when we hand the car back, and if you’d rather not think about it, that’s what our maintenance plan is for.
Usually yes. We’re fully mobile and work from your driveway, garage or parking space.
We’ll need access to your water and a power point, and enough room to open all the doors and walk right around the car, roughly a metre of clearance. For apartments and strata, check building access and any strata rules before you book and let us know.
Undercover space, like a fully enclosed garage or carport, is ideal for the best results, especially for correction and ceramic coating work.
Heads up: it’s the customer’s responsibility to make sure the location is safe, legal and permitted for the work, including any strata or building approval required. Where access turns out to be unsuitable or unauthorised on the day, we may need to reschedule, and cancellation terms apply. Our full Terms & Conditions cover this in detail.
We won’t machine polish in active rain or high wind, and coatings need dry, controlled conditions to cure properly.
If the forecast turns, we’ll contact you as early as we can and move your booking. Weather reschedules never cost you anything.
Heads up: if you have a garage or carport, mention it when booking. That way, bad weather rarely affects your appointment.
